HT Media signs deal with Velti Plc for mobile marketing

HT Media has signed a deal with Velti Plc for providing mobile marketing services to brands and ad agencies. HT’s digital subsidiary, Firefly e-Ventures Ltd. will own a 65% stake in the venture and Amit Garg, head of Firefly will manage the joint venture. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. As per a story in NYT, Wellpoint, a big health insurer in US, is testing a new program that provides patients the option of going to India for medical surgery. The plan includes no out of pocket expenses for the patient and includes free travel for the patient and a companion. The cost savings are just too big to ignore - knee surgery that costs about $70k in the US costs around $8k in India. Sunoh.fm has launched an Orkut app, which probably makes the best sense and strategy for them going forward. This move will most likely provide the social context to the site - be it social sharing or social discovery.
