Vedanta Resources plc (VED) is a diversified and integrated metals and mining group. Headquartered in the United Kingdom, its principal operations are located in India, with a major market share in each of the main metals: aluminium, copper, zinc and lead. There are also substantial copper operations in Zambia and Tasmania, Australia. Vedanta's subsidiary Sterlite Industries is one of India's largest mining companies while Konkola Copper Mines is the largest mining company in Zambia.

In addition to the existing operations, Vedanta currently has a range of expansion projects involving investment of over $2bn, which is already more than half completed. date=February 2007

Vedanta was listed on the London Stock Exchange in December 2003, and the FTSE 100 Index in June 2006.

Subsidiary companies owned by Vedanta Resources include Hindustan Zinc Limited, Bharat Aluminium Company, Konkola Copper Mines in Zambia, Sterlite Industries, and Madras Aluminium Company. The founder of Sterlite Industries and Vedanta Resources is the billionaire Anil Agarwal. Vedanta Resources also has a major stake in iron ore exporter, Sesa Goa.

Vedanta Resources has been repeatedly accused of multiple environmental and human rights abuses, ranging from inadequate handling of hazardous waste, to forced eviction,violence and bribery. A recent report by the Norwegian Council on Ethics to the Norwegian Government Oil Fund detailed many of these alleged abuses, prompting the Norwegian government to withdraw investment from Vedanta Resources citing environmental damage as the cause.
